Water supply for the entire village of Banda Kyandaaza
The project involves the supply of water – actually a water system – to make it easier for the people to tap water. At this moment the women and children have to walk more than a thousand meters to a valley to fill the 20-liter jerry cans, the children carry a bit less, and walk back to their cottages with this heavy load. Apart from heavy it is also dangerous on account of possible assaults and kidnappings.
The project involves the pumping of water from a source into a water tank. From this tank the water is led to a number of taps in the village. Since the terrain is hilly, the tank is being built in an elevated spot in the village. So far the activities of the Weebale Foundation are especially aimed at creating public support in the village. It is essential that such a large-scale project is initiated and supported by the local community. This took much time and energy.
Meanwhile there is a plan in which the community describes why such a water supply is important for the village, how the project can be managed and how the system will be run by the community. On the basis of this plan the Weebale Foundation will coordinate future steps. This involves among other things that with the help of a hydraulic engineering bureau a technical plan and a detailed budget will be made. Subsequently the Weebale Foundation will round the funding of the project. After that the project will be launched.
