WE CAN DO MORE BY JOINING HANDS
On June 4, 2010 the passing of the statutes of the Weebale Foundation took place. In 2006 the basis for the Weebale Foundation was already laid.
The foundation contributes permanently to the development of local communities mainly on the African continent, especially in Oeganda. It runs development projects in the fields of water and sanitation, education and employment and schooling to the prevention of malaria and STDs like HIV/Aids. All projects are being realized in cooperation with and at the request of the local population. Each euro , donated by third parties, is being spent directly, one on one, on the projects. Since the beginning of June 2011 the Weebale Foundation has the so-called ANBI-status, which means it is a government approved foundation for public benefit.
WEEBALE means THANK YOU in the Oegandan language
The beginning in Oeganda
In 2006 the basis for the Weebale Foundation was laid. Krista Zumpolle and Marijke Belder travelled as volunteers to the recently started nursery school in Banda Kyandaza. They stayed there for two months and enjoyed the surroundings, the climate and meeting the local people.
In January 2008 they went there once more. They saw that the children had to walk down hundreds of metres every day to fill their jerry cans with water in a river. The jerry cans were carried up the hill on their heads. The water was used to cook, to sprinkle plants and to wash hands.
Krista and Marijke decided to install a pump. It lasted until December 2008 before the plan took form and got a name: ”Weebale”, which means ‘thank you” in the Ugandan language.
Together with Steven and Roger, two people in Uganda who are very committed to the school, a budget was drawn up and plans were made. The raising of money could start. Friends, acquaintances and a business network were approached. In July 2009 Krista Zumpolle and Robert Bloemendal went to Banda and the first pump was installed.
